Wheels and Tyres Empty Wheels and Tyres

Post  Swissdoc Sun Jan 24, 2010 12:29 am

Hi

I have a fabulous E38 740i (2000 MY) that currently has the large, multispoke 18 inch alloys (with the different sized tyres, front and rear). It is nearly time to have new tyres <£££ - gasp> and I was considering buying a set of 16 inch wheels from a breaker's - not only to keep the costs down but possibly to put winter tyres on (given the global warming that we have been suffering this winter...).

The young man at the tyre place was a bit sniffy and thought that the brake calipers might be too large to fit such 'small' wheels on. Can anyone see a reason why I couldn't fit E38 16 inch wheels on my car? There shouldn't be a problem in clearing the brake calipers, should there? (it's not a sport version).

Any help/advice welcome... Thanks

Chris
