Horrid vibration under the seat

On my e46 320 there is a really bad vibration when i put the power on, like a hedgehog is attacking the underneath of my car with a hammer! Wot on earth could this be? Ive enjoyed a summer of trouble free motoring, i hope this isnt the start of a troubled winter. cheers guys.

It seems like your classic case of a worn propshaft bush (donut) or centre bearing/mount... You will need to get this inspected, or have a look yourself... Inspect the propshaft donut bush for splits and fraying, if that is the case you will need to replace this as soon as possible really...

Right then i will get it inspected. I had a quick look this morning, but i cant see underneath enough to see the propshaft. i dont fancy climbing underneath without a jack or axel stands. i will keep you all posted. cheers.

Hi. The guy garage had a quick look this morning at the prop shaft and he said the donut bush on the prop definately needs changing. I have it booked in now, he reckoned the job would be around £250. Does this sound right to you guys? Cheers

maybe a touch on the expensive side, but it depends on what garage you are using and if he is replacing the centre mount aswell. Id enquire and shop around.... i would say closer to £200 is about right for the cost of the job.

Hi mightybmw, I contacted the garage and he said that the work was just for the flexi disc bush. I contacted another garage and they are saying £180+vat, so much cheaper. Rolling Eyes

I am going to cancel the booking with my current garage and move on. Its well within my budget and so i will get it done. I will let you know when it is done. Thanks guys Very Happy

Hi guys, I got the job done this morning, The job cost me £176.12. That included centre mount, flexi disc bush and new exhaust hangers. Im very happy now, cheers for the help again, i would have paid £250 for the job if i had'nt got in contact with you first. Thanks.
