1995 3 series 1.6i rear end knocking

ive got a nasty knocking from the rear end, ive changed the shock and still getting it.

it only happens when going over rough roads.

can anyone help me, whats wrong with my car?

Hi there.

There are a number of things that can cause knocks on the rear end. Shock absorbers as you say can knock, but as you have replaced them, it is likely to be a diff carrier mount bush or a wishbone bush.

Note all the rubber mountings and check them on your car, visually inspect them and get a bar on the mountings and bushes and lever some pressure on them to check for excessive movement or play..

Do you get any wandering whilst you're driving?

no wondering at all. just as i said a knocking and its only when im going along rough or uneven roads. and as i forgot to say its only on my rear right wheel area.
